Huading Film Awards in Hollywood to reach 1 billion viewers

China's #1 film awards show took place in Hollywood for the first time with leading talent accepting accolades based on the votes of 80 million fans. Orlando Bloom, Bradley Cooper, Halle Berry, Guillermo del Toro, Jeffrey Katzenberg, Zoe Saldana, Jeremy Renner, Charlie Hunnam and Hans Zimmer received key honors for their work at the Huading Film Awards at The Montalban Theater in Los Angeles.

This historic event allowed American motion picture artists to directly acknowledge and express thanks to Chinese moviegoers who support their films. Industry legend Don Mischer produced the event.

EMMY nominated actress and current star of CBS's Elementary, Lucy Liu, co-hosted the show alongside prominent Chinese television personality Olivia Xu.

British actor Orlando Bloom, who rose to fame during his breakthrough role in The Lord of the Rings trilogy, took home the Global Actor Icon award. Bloom's film The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies is due out later this year. During his acceptance speech, Bloom recognized his Chinese fans stating, "I'd like to thank the people of China and my fans in China, for taking the time to watch my movies and vote for this award. I'm very humbled and grateful."

Academy Award winner, Halle Berry, star of X-Men and the highly anticipated new CBS series Extant produced by Steven Spielberg, received the Global Icon Award as the film star selected by the people of China for her extraordinary impact in motion pictures. She made history as the first African-American woman to win the Best Actress Oscar for her powerful performance in Monster's Ball. Of her accolade, Berry said,

"I thank you very much for this acknowledgment tonight, it truly is an honor. When I was in Shanghai, the love that came towards me and the appreciation for the work that I've done, really has stayed with me and I hope that I will continue to make movies and entertain the Chinese audience."

Bradley Cooper, nominated for Oscars in both in 2013 for Silver Linings Playbook and in 2014 for American Hustle, was honored by Chinese fans as their leading choice for Best Global Actor. He is set to star in American Sniper directed by Clint Eastwood.

Jeremy Renner, multi-talented actor, producer and musician, was recognized as the Best Global Supporting Actor for his riveting performance in American Hustle. The Oscar nominated actor (The Town, The Hurt Locker) is slated to star in the upcoming installments of the highly successful Bourne Legacy and Avengers franchises.

Visionary director Guillermo del Toro, best known for Pacific Rim, Hellboy and Pan's Labyrinth, was the recipient of the Best Global Director award. The Oscar nominated director's next film Crimson Tide stars fellow Huading Film Award winner Charlie Hunnam and his new TV series, The Strain, premieres on FX on July 13th.

DreamWorks Animation CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg accepted top honors for The Croods, which was voted the Best Global Animated Film of 2013 by Chinese moviegoers. Under his leadership, DreamWorks has brought together families and audiences from around the world with Kung Fu Panda, which set the record as the #1 animated film when it was released in China. The third installment of the hit franchise is set to premiere in December 2015.

Actress and producer Zoe Saldana was recognized as Best Global Supporting Actress for her starring role in Star Trek Into Darkness. She will be seen on screen reprising the role of "Neytiri" in James Cameron's epic Avatar sequels, filmed in large part on location in China.

Filmmaker Brett Ratner presented a special clip of his upcoming blockbuster, Hercules, which featured a special guest introduction by star Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. One of Hollywood's most successful filmmakers, Ratner's films as a director alone have grossed close to $2 billion worldwide including the Rush Hour trilogy, X-Men: The Last Stand, and Red Dragon.

Charlie Hunnam captured the attention of audiences and critics in his role as Jackson 'Jax' Teller in FX's highest rated drama in history, Sons of Anarchy. He was recognized as the Best Global Emerging Actor at the Huading Film Awards.

Fast & Furious 6 was celebrated as the Best Global Movie of the year based on the popular vote of Chinese film fans. Tyrese Gibson and Jordana Brewster, known to audiences around the world as "Roman Pearce" and "Mia Toretto" from the popular franchise, were on hand to accept the award on behalf of the Producers of the film. They also honored their late co-star Paul Walker, stating,

"We also take this award home in the loving memory of our beloved friend and brother, Paul Walker, who will forever live in our hearts."

Oscar and GRAMMY nominated composer and music producer Hans Zimmer received the Lifetime Achievement Award for extraordinary motion picture scoring. He has composed music for over 100 films, including Gladiator, Inception, The Lion King, The Dark Knight, Kung Fu Panda, Pirates of the Caribbean and most recently, 12 Years a Slave.

The Huading Film Awards will be broadcast in China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. The telecast will air on the International Chinese Network (ICN), Phoenix TV, CCTV, the largest TV network in China and the Xinhua News Agency, the leading news agency in China. The show is expected to reach an audience of over 1 billion viewers through broadcast and an additional 400 million viewers online.

The Huading Film Awards are selected by the public in China, with an estimated 80 million fans voting through polls and surveys in which they select the best films, directors, producers and actors in the industry. The Huading Film Awards featured four exclusive performances. Summer Jikejunyi, the winner of The Voice China captivated the audience with her performance. The famed Jabbawockeez, winners of the hit MTV reality show, America's Best Dance Crew, dazzled with their dance moves. The Shaolin Warriors, credited with creating Kung Fu, showcased their martial arts prowess. Master Zhao, a professional magician, thrilled audiences with his artistry. Presenters included film and television actor James Hong and Chinese actor, stunt man, and music artist George Cheung.
