Blade Runner sequel with Harrison Ford gets go-ahead

Harrison Ford will return to 'Blade Runner 2' as Rick Deckard after the sequel was announced by Alcon Entertainment.

The film has yet to secure a director but Ridley Scott who shot the original classic that came out in 1982 will not be back. However, it is reported that the director will come onboard as a Producer for the new movie.

Alcon Entertainment is currently seeking a film director to take on the new project and are in discussions with Denis Villeneuve (Prisoners) to helm the sequel.

After much speculation about whether a 'Blade Runner' sequel would ever be made, the news today that Ford will make a comeback has been celebrated by fans.

Co-writer Hampton Fancher and Michael Green have penned the new script for the 'Blade Runner' sequel which Harrison Ford described as, "the best thing I've ever read."

Producers Andrew Kosove and Broderkick Johnson released a joint statement about the new film:

"Hampton and Michael, with Sir Ridley Scott, have crafted a uniquely potent and faithful sequel to one of the most universally celebrated films of all time, and we couldn't be more thrilled with this amazing, creative team."

Shooting will commence in summer 2016, and with Ford reprising his role as Han Solo in Star Wars 7, fans of the actor will have to wait for an even bigger surprise when the Blade Runner sequel comes out in 2017.
