Arnold Schwarzenegger has defied the odds with the "Terminator Genisys" reboot and a sequel is now likely after the latest jaw-dropping overseas figures.

The film was poorly received in the U.S and failed to top the Box Office in its first week but internationally it continues to amaze. Over in China, "Terminator Genisys" has opened with a $27.4m haul, the 4th biggest U.S release in history. These are spectacular numbers for a franchise that was deemed too tired and old to revisit.

While Schwarzenegger isn't as young as he used to be, the actor has given his all to promote the film to make his big screen comeback 12 years after his last outing in "Terminator: Rise of the Machines." One of the best promo videos of the campaign for the movie earned over 20 million views:

After a series of films that struggled to find their audience from "The Last Stand" to "Escape Plan" alongside Sylvester Stallone, it looked like Arnie's action career was in trouble.

Despite all the odds, more than 30 years after the original Terminator movie was released, the 5th outing (and 4th for Arnold) has now grossed over $350m globally.

The film may not be considered the best of the franchise, but for it to do this well despite the sheer disappointment of "Terminator: Salvation" shows how Schwarzenegger has kept it alive and given it new direction. With the film being well received by the fans, there is now clear momentum for "Terminator 6" and for the film to be a commercial success if it gets even slightly better reviews and equal marketing power.

It's only a matter of time now before Paramount confirms the 2017 release of the next Terminator sequel, and hopefully, Arnold will be back again.
