Steven Spielberg admits there is no replacement for Harrison Ford

Steven Spielberg has admitted that he feels there is no one who can replace Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones.

In an exclusive interview with Screendaily the director explains how he can’t see any other actors taking on the role of Indiana Jones despite the criticism of the last movie and casting rumors about a younger actor replacing him in any future sequel.

Harrison Ford managed to break his leg on the set of “Star Wars 7” but still continued on to finish the production at the age of 68. While Ford isn’t as youthful as he used to be, the actor's legacy remains with the Indiana Jones trilogy and simply re-casting him would take the films into a different direction.

When “Star Trek: Nemesis” bowed out in 2002, the original cast from “Star Trek: The Next Generation” was replaced with a whole set of new characters and an alternative timeline. For Indiana Jones to be re-cast could mean that the franchise would be in a re-boot phase with a different storyline, but that doesn’t seem to be on the cards.

Spielberg said:

“As long as there’s more adventures out there, I’ve got a bullwhip, a fedora, a leather jacket and a man on a horse who knows how to get the job done.”

It’s been 34 years since "Raiders of the Lost Ark" came out and we were first introduced to the character of Indiana Jones who became an iconic hero for a generation of fans. The franchise continued and the last film, “Indiana Jones and The Kingdom of The Crystal Skull,” came out in 2008.

Now that Harrison Ford is back in action this Christmas in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” it seems now more realistic for the actor to take one last shot at another Indiana Jones movie. 68 isn’t that old after all. We might see “Indiana Jones 5” sooner than we think.
