Star Trek 2 on the way with Chris Pine, JJ Abrams to direct?

Chris Pine confirms Star Trek 2 is the scripting process but a director has yet to be attached to the project.

'Star Trek' has seen a revival, thanks to the reboot of the franchise. Breaking the tradition with the last Star Trek movies, and saying goodbye to the Next Generation cast, the latest outing, directed by JJ Abrams became the best Sci-fi movie of the year. It was also an international box office success for Paramount.

Chris Pine, who portrayed a younger James Tiberius Kirk revived the character so iconic in the 60s original series. William Shatner had been rumoured to be part of the casting of the last film, but producers decided not to. However, Leanord Nimoy features in the story, and is the only actor from the original series to star in the movie.

Star Trek 2 is scheduled for a 2012 release, but production on the latest sequel has not yet been given the go ahead.

Actors returning in the sequel include Karl Urban (Dr Leonard McCoy) and Zachary Quinto (Spock)
