Special 911 Screening Schedule
9/11 Documentary (2002) Directed by Jules and Gedeon Naudet
The 911 documentary depicts the story of two brothers who inadvertantely became caught up in the events that took place that morning. They had been working on a documentary about a New York firefighter when they witnessed just above them a plane crashing into one of the twin towers. It transformed their story into one of the most enthralling real-life accounts of the tragedies that took place that day.
Screening time: September 10th 12:00PM.
A panel discussion will analyse the visual memory of September 11th after the film is shown
25th Hour (2002) Directed by Spike Lee
A convicted New York drug dealer is handed a sentence by the DEA and must re-evaluate his life in 24 hours before he goes to jail. The film was the first major motion picture to be shot on location in New York dealing with the post-911 tragedy, as characters from all walks of life become intertwined in Monty’s (Ed Norton’s) last day of freedom. Spike Lee’s interpration of social ambiguity in post 911 New York is poignant and shows the fragility of New Yorkers who are still coming to grips with their collective insecurity post 911.
Screening time: September 11th 7.45pm
Edward Norton, Spike Lee and producer Jon Kilik will attend a Q and A following the screening of the movie.
