Piers Morgan leads calls for a change in America's gun laws

CNN host very vocal on Connecticut massacre

While UK gun laws have prevented many fatalities in the last year alone, Americans are suffering from an immense tragedy in the aftermath of the Newtown massacre, and horrific scenes like this keep coming back.

CNN host Piers Morgan has been leading calls for renewed debate on US gun laws. No changes have been made to gun laws since the killing of cinema goers at a midnight screening of 'The Dark Knight Rises' earlier in the year, and yesterday's tragedy speaks yet another reality : Guns are too readily available.

Piers Morgan in the immediate aftermath of the disaster took to his Twitter account and posted several messages about gun crime in the U.S. He has been the most vocal supporter for change so far. Other Hollywood figures have spoken out too, but the CNN host has continued to debate the topic via social media, and on his show. Speaking with guests about the Newtown massacre Piers asked:

"How many more kids have to die, before you guys say, 'we want less guns, not more?'"

Whether Morgan and other Hollywood figures can successfully push for change is another story, but for us Brits, it's pretty easy to see what needs to happen, but will Americans support it? It's deeply tragic to see this kind of carnage, and it's not going to go away unless people support a shift in attitudes towards guns.

Yesterday, President Obama broke down in tears after the news, so tragically soon after other fatal shootings across the country. Should America now finally take the steps to take guns away?
