Paul Walker's death may cost Universal insurers more than $50 million

The death of 'Fast & Furious 7' actor Paul Walker may cost in excess of $50 million as production delays increase department expenditure and in turn the size of the insurance claim.

On top of the mounting costs for the production, reported to be heading pass the $250 million mark, additional footage has had to be cut, with new scenes and schedule changes for talent. This has also affected the marketing window and other areas of the production creating additional expenses not originally budgeted for.

Following Paul Walker's death, Universal released a tribute video that became an instant web hit. Then after consulting with Walker's family and brother Cody Walker, a new release date was set and announced.

While the success of the 'Fast and Furious 7' is far from certain, the global attention following Walker's death has given the film even bigger hype than previous sequels.

THR reports this may be Hollywood's biggest insurance claim ever, while fans of the franchise wait with anticipation the first trailer for the movie, which is scheduled for release in April 2015.
