Oprah Winfrey teenage pregnancy could have ended her life

Oprah Winfrey recently talked about her teenage pregnancy with Piers Morgan on CNN and revealed a stark message to young people who are careless in their youth.

Winfrey, who was pregnant at the age of 14 was suicidal and wanted nothing to do with the baby. As a teenager, her life was over with the birth of that child, but it died weeks later in hospital. The show host and entrepreneur would never have had the success of today if that baby had lived.

The interview reveals one of the most painful experiences in Oprah's life, but her child didn't survive which shifted everything and is the reason she can talk about it today.

Speaking to Piers, Oprah told him that : When the baby died, I knew that it was my second chance.

What is powerful about this interview is that it shows how it divided her family. Her father told her at the time of her pregnancy that "I would rather see a daughter of mine floating down the Cumberland River than to bring shame on this family and the indecency of an illegitimate child."

Teenage pregnancy is a problem not just in America, but around the world. The mere fact that Oprah felt relief that her child did not survive just shows how tormenting it can be to have an unexpected pregnancy.
