President Obama called Tim Howard and Team USA captain Clint Dempsey to congratulate them on their heroic 'defeat'. (video below)

In a phone call from the White House, Obama weighed in on how soccer was evolving as a sport, and what the team had done to make the nation proud with their brilliant performance, even if the result hadn't turned out great.
