Comedy trailers are always a good laugh, but it would seem the innovation in this latest preview is somewhat lacking. The visual penguin funk just doesn't quite get there on the level of 'Ace Ventura Pet Detective'.
It's too early to tell whether this trailer is a misfire, or the movie is, but so far, there has been very little enthusiasm for it. The Ace Ventura Pet Detective took Jim Carrey's extravagance to an epic high in the 90s, but repeating that formula with CGI penguins mixed with prayers and gimmicks might prove to be outdated, and fatigued.
Still, Carrey always surprises his audience, and delivers peculiar comedy that gets some cheap laughs, some loud ones, and the odd boo.
