James Cameron delays retirement to make ‘The Informationist’

James-Cameron-informationist-film-productionJames Cameron will not be retiring from making movies after completing the two ‘Avatar’ sequels, he has decided on a thriller called ‘The Informationist’. The film is based on the novel, with the same title, written by Taylor Stevens in 2011.

So what is it about this book that is so compelling that it has drawn Cameron out of his planned retirement from film-making? It appears to be a strong, determined, intelligent, adventurous woman, namely the main character in the story.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the film’s Producer, Jon Landau, says “we were drawn to this book because of the terrific, compelling narrative and the character, who typifies the strong female protagonists that have inhabited Jim’s work. In this case, Vanessa Munroe [the main character] is essentially a mix of Lisbeth Salander and Jason Bourne.” Cameron adds that, “Vanessa Michael Munroe is an intriguing and compelling heroine with an agile mind and a thirst for adventure. Equally fascinating for me is her emotional life and her unexpected love story.”

The book synopsis reveals that Vanessa “Michael” Munroe deals in information—expensive information—working for corporations, heads of state, private clients, and anyone else who can pay for her unique brand of expertise. Born to missionary parents in lawless central Africa, Munroe took up with an infamous gunrunner and his mercenary crew when she was just fourteen. As his protégé, she earned the respect of the jungle’s most dangerous men, cultivating her own reputation for years until something sent her running. After almost a decade building a new life and lucrative career from her home base in Dallas, she’s never looked back.

The Cameron-Landau team are due to start filming ‘Informationist’ on completion of the ‘Avatar’ sequels, and will be using their winning formula once again, which includes Fox and Jim Gianopulos.

We are not sure whether this will be the last film to be made by Cameron, as a second book was published by Taylor Stevens earlier this year. Another sequel perhaps?!

Nevertheless, we are glad that the Cameron-Landau team has decided to stay on circuit, and the entertainment world now definitely has even more to look forward to.
