Indie film Let There Be Light surges past Clooney at the U.S. Box Office

Indie film “Let There Be Light,” executively produced by Sean Hannity sails past George Clooney’s “Suburbicon” at the U.S. box office after an impressive opening weekend.

Currently playing on a limited release, Hannity’s indie film averaged $4,637 per theater, far exceeding Clooney’s “Suburbicon” which managed to average just $1,388 on its opening weekend with the backing of a major studio.

“Let There Be Light,” a faith-based drama which was independently produced stars Kevin Sorbo, Daniel Roebuck, Dionne Warwick and features Hannity as himself. Hannity also financed most of the picture which is estimated to have cost $3 million to produce with Kevin Sorbo directing.

As Hollywood studios struggle to turn a profit on their high budget blockbusters and increasingly turning to foreign markets to recoup their costs, indie films now have a place at the top of the U.S. box office with strong stories that appeal to a core audience at home.

“Let There Be Light” was originally released in 373 theaters, but with demand remaining high this is set to expand to more than 650 in its second week. Thanks to an effective marketing campaign build up, along with solid reviews from audiences, “Let There Be Light” is a shining example of how indie filmmakers can attain success at the box office.
