The most prestigious Awards event for Ireland recognizes a wide range of filmmaking from short films and documentaries to international features. Categories also include composing, production design, make up and editing.
This year's announcement places highly acclaimed French film 'Un Prophet' against 'Inception', 'The Social Network' and 'Toy Story 3' for the Best International film
Receiving huge hype before its release in cinemas, The Social Network has been a hit movie with audiences and critics, that feel David Fincher's adaptation of the story behind Facebook is iconic.
Some may disagree, feeling that virtually every Award ceremony has placed too much emphasis on the film, which is clearly commercially viable because of Facebook's popularity. Without the Facebook audience to support the film, would it have the same amount of critical acclaim? Facebook, is after all, is the 2nd most visited website in the world, and a leading search term in Google.
