Directing with James Strong

James' directing career spans television film and documentary. In 2008, he was recognised as Best Director at the BAFTA Cymru Awards for his work on Doctor Who - Voyage of the Damned. More recently James' work includes the award-winning Broadchurch (ITV), BBC Kenny Everett biopic The Best Possible Taste and The Great Train Robbery (BBC One) where he worked once more with Broadchurch writer, Chris Chibnall.

Television Presenting with Alex Brooker

Alex burst onto our screens after he successfully auditioned for Channel 4, after seeing their advert for the Half Million Quid Talent Search to find new disabled talent for the 2012 Paralympics.
He joined Channel 4 fully in March 2012 and reported at the Paralympics Opening Ceremony, interviewing Boris Johnson and the Prime Minister in front of a TV audience of 11 million people. After this, Alex featured on the award-winning The Last Leg as a co-presenter alongside Adam Hills and Josh Widdicombe every night. Following its award-winning success, the show returned for 2013 and now in 2014 it is currently in its third series. In 2014 Alex joined Davina McCall co-hosting The Jump, which saw twelve famous faces take on some of the most challenging and dangerous winter sports as they bid to become crowned champion of The Jump.

Costume Design with Susannah Buxton

After receiving a BA in Art and Design at Birmingham College of Art and a Postgraduate in Radio, Film and Television at Bristol University. Susannah Buxton has become a BAFTA, EMMY, AFI, RTS and Costume Designers Guild award-winning Costume Designer. Enjoying a highly successful career designing within film and television, some of Susannah’s credits include Mr Wroe’s Virgins, Shooting the Past, Death Defying Acts, Downton Abbey, As You Like it andJane Eyre.

Film Production with Gareth Ellis-Unwin and Jessica Malik

Gareth Ellis-Unwin is an Academy Award and BAFTA-winning Producer and CEO of Bedlam Productions. After winning a BAFTA nomination for his first film Exam, Gareth went on to produce the critically acclaimed The King's Speech. The record-breaking film picked up seven BAFTAs including both Outstanding British Film and Best Film, and four Academy Awards, including Best Film. Gareth is currently working on The Lady Who Went Too Far, which sees Bedlam re-united with The King's Speech writer David Seidler. He is also developing Spitfire Girls, a TV Drama centering on the female pilots of WW2 and a comedy feature film entitled, Women in Temptation. He is also acting as an Executive Producer on Mercury 13 for Discovery.

In 2010, former sales agent, Jessica Malik partnered with Jessica Parker to form Pari Passu Films. Her most recent credits as Producer or Executive Producer include Zaytoun, Ghosted and Estranged as well as having a number of films in development including FEST with the BFI and Women in Temptation with Bedlam Productions. In her previous guise, Jessica Malik handled international sales on many feature films including the box office smash The Woman in Black, multiple Academy Award winning Robert Altman’s Gosford Park, Paul McGuigan’s Lucky Number Slevin, Peter Howitt’s Sliding Doors, Matt Reeves US DVD chart topping Let Me In, multiple Academy Award nominee Peter Weir’s The Way Back and numerous other films with budgets ranging from $5m-$40m.

Production Design with Donal Woods

Donal Woods was born in Dublin and brought up in Newark, Nottinghamshire. He was educated at The Magnus Grammar School, Newark, and then went on to study a BA Hons degree in Interior Design at De Montford University in Leicester. After leaving university he joined the BBC Television Design Department as a Design Assistant, progressing to Art Director and finally Production Designer. He left the BBC in the mid 1990’s to go freelance. Donal has received five Prime Time Emmy nominations in the United States and has five BAFTA nominations. He won a BAFTA in 2008 for best Production Design on Cranford (Masterpiece/BBC) and has been production designer on Downton Abbey. Donal was also Production Designer on the Oscar nominated film My Week with Marilyn.

This Masterclass will also feature a tour of the Downton Abbey set at Ealing Studios!
