Films to watch on the last day (in no particular order)
1. Independence Day
Will Smith versus aliens in Roland Emmerich’s 1996 blockbuster film is a classic worth watching for its cheesy one-liners, sensational effects and for that scene where the White House gets obliterated.
2. Armageddon
Bruce Willis takes on a rock the size of Texas with a crew of deepcore drillers in this adventurous blockbuster. The earth’s peril lies on the shoulders of two spaceshuttle teams and their drilling expertise on a moving asteroid. Lots of explosions, and a fun ride from director Michael Bay.
3. Terminator 2
Arnold Schwarzenegger’s 2nd outing as the Terminator puts machine versus machine as he tries to defend the life of John Conner, leader of the human resistance in the future. The stakes couldn’t be higher. If John Conner is killed, and Cyberdyne systems continue their research to develop robotic military drones (like the ones we have now) the world will end.
4. Deep Impact
Well, this film is not exactly an epic Hollywood blockbuster that emerges you in its story, but you could call it a good take on how the media and the government would handle the end of the world as an asteroid impacts earth.
5. The Day After Tomorrow
This movie buries us in snow, literally as the world starts to rapidly experience an ice age. Starting off in the Antarctic, the film succeeds in creating a sense of inevitable doom, and the human race must survive the next ice age. Of course, with Hollywood comes the extreme; storms, cities and tsunamis.
