Fact Not Fiction Films to start production on short film ‘Missing a Note’

Fact Not Fiction Films has confirmed that Beth Moran will direct its next short film entitled ‘Missing a Note’. Beth joined the company in 2015 and is also co-directing their feature length documentary ‘Everybody Flies’. ‘Missing a Note’ will be her first short film as Director.

‘Missing a Note’ comes after Fact Not Fiction Films’ Kodak-supported short film ‘Ellston Bay’ directed by Nicholas Eriksson. ‘Ellston Bay’ was production managed by Beth and will premiere in the BFI IMAX on Saturday 14th April 2018.

‘Missing a Note’ follows striving opera extraordinaire, John O’Connell, who, after being forced to give up his successful singing career following a botched vocal operation, takes up examining in a desperate bid to fulfil his love of singing. As young Molly Groves embarks on her first singing exam before the retired opera legend, John’s now diminishing short-term memory means Molly is in for a few puzzling surprises in this charming short drama.

Producer, Tristan Loraine commented:

“Everyone at Fact Not Fiction Films is delighted to support Beth with her directing debut in the short film format. She has trained at the National Film and Television School and Raindance London. That training, combined with her previous experience on documentaries and as Production Manger on our other projects, should prepare her well. The film will be shot in Ultra High Definition (UHD) on a Canon C300 Mark II with Canon CN-E cinema prime lenses.”

Fact Not fiction Films has also confirmed it will be working alongside award-winning film composer Moritz Schmittat and renowned Italian Steadicam operator Abramo DeLicio on this project. Both have worked extensively before with Fact Not Fiction Films on other projects.

“The film has a very important underlying theme to it. With John’s short-term memory becoming more prominent in his day-to-day life, ‘Missing a Note’ aims to inform audiences in a light-hearted yet poignant style to increase understanding of Alzheimer’s and Dementia. I am very excited to be directing this short film, as the subject matter is one I hold close to my heart.”
