PRESS RELEASE - ÉCU The European Independent Film Festival will be rolling out its indie carpet on the 4th of April, kicking off a weekend of screening some of the World's best indie films at Cinéma Les 7 Parnassiens in Montparnasse, Paris, France.

"We eagerly look forward to giving these great indie films the recognition they deserve,"

said Scott Hillier, Oscar-honored filmmaker and ÉCU's Founder.

"In its 9th year, ÉCU continues its tradition of being a true filmmakers' festival, in which directors develop their unique styles in a creative and stimulating environment."

ÉCU's 2014 Official Selection films are competing for 24 awards in 15 different categories. Highlights include 'Damn Girl', a short film from Denmark directed by Kira Richard Hansen, which follows the exploits of a 12-year-old tomboy struggling with life's challenges; 'Not Anymore: A story of revolution', Matthew VanDyke's provocative and intimate investigation inside the current war in Syria; 'Virtuoso Virtual', a striking experimental film from Germany in which Maja Oschmann's ink drawings and Thomas Stellmach's animations explore an abstract narrative of lightness and music; and 'We Will Riot', a feature film from Lithuania directed by Romas Zabarauskas, which thematically dovetails a cutting-edge musical movement with political protest.

Winners will not only receive worldwide recognition but will take home prizes from the London Film Academy, Red Giant, Dixit, Cyberlink, Golla and more companies that support the indie film community.

Festival attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of workshops ranging in subjects from business aspects of filmmaking to editing and directing. Throughout the weekend Director Q&A sessions will take place where audience members can pose questions directly to the filmmakers. In association with Areabox, after-parties will be held across the city throughout the weekend, featuring live musical performances thanks to ÉCU's partner, Access Film-Music.

ÉCU - The European Independent Film Festival has been a launching site for many talented directors - proving that great cinema can be driven by pure passion and creative thinking, not only by big budgets.
