David Fincher directs The Facebook movie

The Social Network, directed by David Fincher tracks the early days of Facebook, and how it has grown into the biggest name in social media today. The story also follows the apparent rift between founder Mark Zuckerberg and his longtime friend Eduardo Saverin.

This is Hollywood's first major movie that explores the story of Facebook, which has become a global institution for connecting people with each other throughout the web. The Social Network , written by Aaron Sorking, stars Jesse Eisenberg in the role of Mark Zuckerberg with a mix of fairly unknown actors.

The teaser trailer, which reveals very little won't give us much information about the film until closer to its release in October but it is exciting to have one of the industry's most respected directors taking a shot at the subject. Fincher's previous movies include Fight Club , The Game , Seven and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.

Social media has become a cultural phenomenon for young people around the world, and has risen to the spotlight in a few short years. Social networking is also important to filmmakers because it allows them to build fan bases for their work, whether indie or mainstream. Marketing movies online is becoming more prevalent in the 21^st century and The Social Network could prove to be an online hit.
