Cannes Film Festival Cinéfondation Competition begins

Today the first set of Cinéfondation short films will play at the Cannes Film Festival. Selected from film school submissions around the world, the cinéfondation competition features some of the most promising up and coming talent.

French film director Michel Gondry will judge this year’s short films along with other respected industry pros. Gondry recently helmed ‘the Green Hornet’, a caper hit starring Seth Rogen.

The Cinéfondation selection is specifically for film students only. Some of the world’s top film schools make the selection every year, and in 2011, the competition is even more intense.

1,589 films were submitted from around the world and short listed for this year’s competition. Winners will be announced on May 20th.
