The 2018 Cannes Film Festival officially got underway today on the French Riviera, welcoming a host of stars to the Grand Théâtre Lumière in the Palais des Festivals.
This year’s official Jury was formally introduced by Thierry Frémaux, the festival’s director inside the packed theatre. The opening ceremony was attended by a host of stars and jury members including Chang Chen, Ava DuVernay, Robert Guédiguian, Khadja Nin, Léa Seydoux, Kristen Stewart, Denis Villeneuve, Andrey Zvyagintsev, and Festival President, Cate Blanchett.
Also in attendance was film director Martin Scorsese who joined Cate Blanchett to officially launch the festival.
Following the opening ceremony, the first film, “Todos Lo Saben” by Asghar Farhadi was screened. The film’s cast and crew were also in attendance including its director along with Penélope Cruz, Javier Bardem and Ricardo Darín.
The 2018 Cannes Film Festival takes place from May 8-19.
