Backlash for Fake news story on Will Smith and Jada Pinkett breakup

Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith are definitely not splitting up but the very fact that a big magazine can create such a story puts serious doubt on its reputation as a source.

In fact, when you have a story this big, and an established readership its almost shameful to leak something like this without research and force public figures to deny such rumours. While I can’t say whether In Touch Weekly knew that the story was false or were duped by someone pretending to be from the Smith camp, it just annoys me that every news agency has to quote this silly story.

The reason I am bringing this up is not to tell you that its false, because we know that. However, it seems to be a common practice to spread news reports like this without researching sources and just blindly ‘copying and pasting’ because everyone else is.

So what’s the lesson we can learn from this? Well I hope that In Touch Weekly double and triple checks their sources, before people like Will and Jada have to make public statements to deny rumours that have become ‘facts’.

Just to give you an insight on how viral this story went today, over 500 news articles from major sources have so far covered it.

Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith statement

“Although we are reluctant to respond to these types of press reports, the rumors circulating about our relationship are completely false. We are still together, and our marriage is intact,”

What do you think? Are you enjoying fake news stories or does the celebrity spin excite you?
