A look back at this year s MIDEM

This year s MIDEM in Cannes was an exciting mix of artists, managers, record labels and more.

I was excited to have the opportunity to cover events for Film Industry Network and lifestyle magazine FR2DAY.com. The MIDEM is a big deal for the music industry, particularly in the UK and the US as major and indie labels promote their artists and big institutions come to talk about the industry.

Every year the NRJ Music Awards takes place in the Palais on the first day of the MIDEM festival. This year the likes of Rihanna and Pharrell walked the red carpet.

I was very impressed by the variety of artists that came to perform. Every night there were concerts to highlight upcoming talent, some coming from as far as Japan. This was a great feature, allowing people to watch and meet the artists after shows.

What I learned from this event is that the industry is very much led by the UK in Europe. London is the music capital with a big presence at the festival. So many labels, artists and managers come over for this event.

In retrospective the smaller indie labels coming from places like Sweden and south Africa were giving out mixtapes and promos.

I also discovered a sensational talent who is going to be a major artist on the music scene. I was blown away by her grace and singing talent, and will showcase her work shortly on the network.
