Fiction on Independence Day

It’s the 4th of July and what better way to celebrate it than to watch over-the-top Hollywood interpretations of Independence Day.

True patriots will adore and cherish the cheeseball lines and outdated CGI of ‘Independence Day’, 1996’s blockbuster smash, directed by Roland Emmerich. It has nothing to do with the historical significance of the 4th of July, but the stakes are so high, that America must come together in its darkest hour. Starring Will Smith, Bill Pullman, Jeff Goldblum and Vivica A. Fox, ‘Independence Day’ is a classic that guarantees a thrill ride as humans battles aliens in order to save the earth.

If you decide to re-watch ‘Independence Day’ you will notice that the sub-plot of the movie talks about how the world fights for itself. This movie goes beyond the theme of American Independence, but that of the Earth, as one nation. Will it ever happen?
